“My Struggles And Victory From Homosexuality” – Femi ‘Popson’ Popoola

Priscilla, CANADA — Hello great people, here is the deal, from time to time, I will be featuring gospel artistes living in Nigeria.

Today’s edition is centered on a young multi-talented worshipper, my good friend; a Singer, Dancer and an actor who I’m really fond of; enthralled at his willingness to share his story about his struggle and deliverance from ‘Homosexuality’ as well as his new single- ‘ALAPANLA’ and previous single –ALADE OGO.

Please meet Femi Popoola known as ‘Popson’

I have seen him go through a lot, observed his struggles, how God has been helping him and I congratulate him for the success of his music.

People like this are worth celebrating – people who don’t give up the fight. We fall, but we don’t stay down, we get up, dust it off and press on. Who said it was gonna be easy?

Meet Femi Popoola

I am a music minister who sings for a living; a graduate of Banking and Finance department Olabisi Onabanjo University Ogun State, who professionally started singing in 2007, was part of the Teens Church Choir in RCCG Victory House and now one of the Lead singers with RCCG City of David also a professional backup vocalist for Yetunde Are.

THE ABUSE

‎The journey wasn’t really a smooth one at the beginning, I was molested as a little boy by some guys in my neighbourhood, and that was how I was introduced to sex as a teenager, was abused again and again until it was addictive.

Going to confide to someone in church who was a leader proved to be a mistake as he was a victim too! This left me more vulnerable and completely messed up.

MY HEALING

My healing and deliverance did not come by going for any special deliverance because that did not help either. I got to a place that I had to accept and admit to myself that it was completely wrong and I needed a total healing.

Not until I admitted and accepted that this was totally wrong and surrendered completely to God in the place of worship did I become totally free and clean. Isaiah 6 became real and alive for me and it has helped my inadequacies.

FAMILY’S REACTION

I thank God for my family who believed so much in me and constantly prayed for me especially my mum who is a phenomenal woman of strength and support to me, though heartbroken that I went through all that, embraced and supported me in the process of my healing.

She did not cast me away, condemn or look down on me. She instead showed me love and constantly interceeds for me.

OVERCOMING

Once there was healing and freedom, I realized that it was important to surround and immerse myself with valuable work and not to be idle. I become vulnerable when I’m idle.

So I dedicated myself to gospel music and singing full time – staying in the place of worship and prayer always busy for God, building my singing career and making myself useful in the house of God and outside the church

ACCOUNTABILITY

It was also important for me to have someone to be accountable to, someone to serve as a watchdog and check my activities from time to time. I have a woman of God who I respect and am accountable to.

THE CHURCH

The church should learn to show love more to victims and not be quick to condemn those that are ready to heal. So many cases of victims that I know were driven away completely from the Church because they believed they were of negative influences.

Yet its so sad, that some Church leaders are victims too and find it hard to own up due to shame, pride, addiction, etc.

The church needs to wake up and step up to fully understand what role needs to be played for broken hearts. Jesus did not cast away anyone, his arms were always opened to receive all kinds of people.

FORGIVENESS

By God’s grace, I have forgiven the guys that victimized me. I bear no grudge whatsoever. God has forgiven and cleansed me. I am pressing on in Christ.

ME AGAIN

Having experienced all that and living in a world filled with abuses, molestations, broken homes and all sorts inspired me to organise a Worship Concert Series Tagged ME AGAIN.

ME AGAIN is a worship concert with the goal of creating an atmosphere of worship; to heal people of their past hurts and I thank God for the success of previous concerts.

MY MUSIC
To the glory of God, I have two of my singles out ALADE OGO and ALAPANLA. These songs mean so much to me it expresses my Heart to the Lord my King who has been there for me.

INSPIRATION
My inspiration comes from God but I listen to good music generally, I have shared the stage with Don Moen, Ron kenoly, Lenny leBlanc, Evans. Mama Bola Are, Toun soetan, Tope Alabi, Yetunde Are, Big Bolaji, Chevelle Franklyn, Kenny Kore, Midnight crew Nathaniel bassey, Bukola bekes, Enitan Adaba and so many.

Acting was what I started doing originally. before singing and you know, it’s just being useful and fruitful in what God has committed in my hands as gifts and talents

WISH
I really would love to meet Pastor Donnie McClurkin. Having gone through similar experience and he is someone I look up to.

Priscilla- Here is a personal message for Pastor Donnie. Femi really wants to meet you. I know you will be reading this – (Fingers Crossed}

PHEMMY Says:
On the legalization of Homosexuality in the US- I personally think its UNGODLY!

ADVICE‎ FROM PHEMMY TO VICTIMS
Let go of your past because its in the past. You are a new creation. Bear in mind that every mess comes with a message. You have to first of all accept you have a problem and that you are totally wrong.

Once you admit to yourself and stop denying that fact as well as willingness to let God by surrendering totally and getting a personal deliverance first, then you are on your way to victory.
