LETTER FROM MOM: Never Stop Dancing In The Rain, My Child – @opewalker

dance-in-the-rain-childMy Child,

Never stop dancing in the rain

What an opening Mom?

I know. It is unusual, but you see, the life we have been called to live ‘is an-unusual one’.

It is no longer your life anymore. ‘The life you now live, you live by the faith of the One who loved you and gave Himself for you’.

How is that even remotely possible? Glad you asked.

Deep inside of you is a war. A war you never could win on your own; a struggle that wants to tear you apart.

In you is so much good, my love. The kind of good that brings pleasure to us, your earthly parents, and more, your Heavenly Father.

How do I begin to explain?

Long before you came to your father and me, Someone thought of you and planned for you. ‘Your life had been mapped out, down to this very day’.

However, there’s another opposing force. You did nothing to get it, it is beyond you. You were born this way. So don’t try to look to yourself for a way out when you find your thoughts going far from good. The good news is, this battle had already been won on your behalf. Remember the One I said planned for you?

‘He fought on your behalf’, look to Him instead

To my main reason for writing to you:

I look at you and delight myself while you delight yourself in finding new things. The joy you experience when you hear the sound of rushing water, the squeals of delight when your dad tickles you. You love to babble happily at your favourite songs. And child, even while I wish it, you cannot remain a child forever.

So here’s my little cents.

Cultivate the attitude of never losing this child-like wonder, because my dear, life has a way of stealing this child-like wonder from us.

Life has a way of creeping in and stealing our joy.

You may be happy on the surface, but deep down it is another battle. Remember?

Happiness is a superficial response to circumstances and subject to these circumstances, but Joy is deeper.

It is a spiritual discipline. You have to wrestle for it. You have to make conscious efforts to find and keep your joy. In good times and more importantly in the not too good times, find a reason to be joyful. God commands us to be joyful.

Sadly, you cannot make your material possessions the source of your joy. That will only make you greedy.

Neither can you make your spouse, your children, and your work and even us your parents, the source of your joy.

We all won’t last. We all also have to wrestle for our joy. How then can you find this joy and keep it?

“In the One who loved you and gave Himself for you”

“He already fought for your joy and gladly, He won”

“He rejoices over you with singing”

“Look to Him, He is your beginning and ending”

“He will never leave you neither will He forsake you”

Long after your father and I are departed, “He is the closest friend you could ever have. He sticks closer than a brother”

My child, take delight in His creations. Sing the songs He puts in your heart. See His mighty works when you go to the beach. Praise Him, when the sun rises and sets.

When you see a new plant, delight at His marvellous works. For who can really explain that “unless a seed of grain falls to the earth and dies, it cannot live again?”

Only He can.

Dance in the rain, my child.  Laugh a lot, not because you’re silly, but because “you have made the most High your habitation”

I love you,

Opeyemi Otolorin
