Fork over Hands; the Tale of Its Usefulness – By Kishi

forks-and-spoon

The fork, to some of us is a useless tool for eating eba. We’d love to wash our hands in a wash hand basin or get a bowl from the kitchen, fill it with water, balance on the chair or sit on the Persian rug with both legs crossed in the yoga-meditation position and devour the meal with either class or frenzy (we are “african” like that). And the rest of us would gladly sit at the dining table or on the floor and cut the eba into morsels, lather it with the soup and gulp it down using a fork.

The fork also feels useless to some who are too hungry to use it to eat rice or scoop cold garri. They’d go for the spoon has it packs more grains into ones mouth. The usefulness and uniqueness of a fork is often over looked by those who do not know how to use it or are not interested in embracing its modern-western value.

How do you see yourself when you’re rejected, not called on to do something, shunned, overlooked, not known for your particular strength because you look frail, unintelligent, ugly, fat, too tall, too skinny, too short, too dark, too fair. “too everything”? Do you cry, mope around, become depressed when you’re called useless, undervalued? Think of the fork. Think of those that know its usefulness. Its value. The class it exhumes by just using it. The automated respected look; The refined, cultured fingers that holds it. th..e the th.. the t.. the… oh my. My fingers are stuttering.

Remember who you are. In whose likeness you were created. Who your Father is. Who He sees when he looks at you. The gift He put in you. The plans that are of good tidings. He knows your purpose. He knows your value. He knows what you’re capable of doing.

Forget your family’s issues, forget your Boss’s fury. Forget that you’re overlooked or taken for granted. YOU MATTER. Like every other person that drinks water. (meeehn, see rhyme).

A crumbled 1000naira note is still very useful to whoever is spending it and whoever is receiving it. So is the fork and a murderer and a liar and a thief and a womanizer and a whole lot of other persons that feel they can’t become something useful for God or to their immediate environment. God dwells in eternity and not in “Human Time”. He’s been through all of time (remember He’s the beginning and the end?) that’s why He was able to erase my terrible past. How much more yours?

Oh my… the Bliss of a Glorious thought.

If you ever feel alone, if you feel like you’re a hand-me-down pulled out of the depths of a homeless man’s baggage, Remember God’s name, mumble it under your breath and believe in the plans he has for you. Love yourself in permanent ink. Christ once affirmed that he did not need to be educated regarding the inner workings of the human personality, because He himself “Knows what is in man” (John 2:25)

So say it, speak it… those positive things you want for yourself. Those assurances that you know of. Believe me, I’m certain the fork prays when it’s lying in the utensil cabinet in a kitchen. It’s Prayer? “Let someone that appreciates my usefulness pick me up today and I will serve him like I am supposed to”.

I’ll leave you with one of my assurances though. (Ever since I got a hold of this insight, my Shoulder-pads became 100 times more than its original height. Yass, I’m proud like that).

“I’m not Hercules”

“But I’m a god, the Son of God”
