ONOS MUSIC

Praiseworld – Could you share your first experience with Music?
ONOS-Hmmmm! my first experience with music was when I was pretty young. At that period, I was learning how to play the keyboard, the recorder and was also in a choral group. Back then, it was a beautiful experience.

I noticed that each time I have to go for my classes; I was always very excited that my family noticed. I loved to be around anything or anywhere that had to do with Music. Those memories are so priceless that each time I think about it, it makes me smile.

Praiseworld – You dumped your French degree for music. What gave you that conviction that music was where God wanted you to be?
ONOS-I won’t say I dumped my French degree totally because I still do stuff here and there with my French. Singing has been my thing from a very tender age, while studying in the university, I knew I was going to end up chasing my music as a career and also make a living out of it and thank God for the holy spirit who always gives me that inner conviction against all odds I am ready to live my dream.

Praiseworld – What’s your view on gospel music per excellence?
ONOS – Excellence in Gospel Music is a subject that people always jump on every now and then, I can say we are not there yet but we are not where we use to be and of course I know it can get better. Gospel music in Nigeria now is not where it used to be some years ago.

Several changes have occurred and like I always say, there are more platform in which artist can promote and push their talents. Using Praiseworld Radio for example, the inception of the station has given more gospel artists another large platform to be heard as well as reaching out to larger audience not just the Lagos audience.

During the "Everything Has Changed" video shoot

During the “Everything Has Changed” video shoot

Praiseworld – Still talking about excellence, your video of “Everything has changed” was fantastic and pretty cool, how did you pull it off?
ONOS- When it comes to my music / videos, I try as much as I can to make it stand out because I’m under the leadership of Pastor Paul Adefarasin and one thing House on the Rock is known for is excellence. So unconsciously, it rubs off in almost all the project I want to do.

For my videos, I go all out by spending money on costumes, make up and anything that will make it unique. For the video of “Everything has changed” I had several meetings with my stylist ‘BYGE’ and the video director ‘FRIZZLE’ I told them what I wanted and they basically interpreted the different ideas.

We didn’t want anything that will distract viewers from the deep message of the song, we really wanted to keep it simple as well as deep, that was why we went with the idea of having a picture story of me at different stages and phases of my life, something real that the viewers can connect and identify with and basically explain to them how Everything has changed…

During the shoot of the "Everything Has Changed" video

During the shoot of the “Everything Has Changed” video

Praiseworld – Still on “Everything has changed” is there any specific situation God changed in your life that you would like to share as an encouragement to your fans?
ONOS – God has practically changed a lot about me; I am not who I used to be and where I used to be. In terms of chasing my vision and dreams, God has changed a lot about me.

In that angle, these days as am thinking about a plan, I JUST DO IT by taking action, on like before, where I worry a lot and get myself worked up on what if it doesn’t work?

Praiseworld – Were there times that your role as one of the lead vocalist in House on the Rock Church has somewhat conflicted with your music career? If yes, how did you balance it?
ONOS – They do not conflict; the most important thing here is communication. If you communicate properly to the leadership on what your activities are, then there won’t be any problem, and that’s what I have been doing and like I will always say, talent is not enough as artist you need to have character and discipline, when that is in place you are good to go.

Onos with "Chosen Treasure" - House On The Rock choir

Onos with “Chosen Treasure” – House On The Rock choir

Praiseworld – Is there any memorable/embarrassing stage experience you would love to share or want us to laugh about?
ONOS- {Chei!!!} Let me think first …… Ok good! I remember singing at a Concert in Asaba and as I was singing, I noticed one of the camera men were trying so hard to get my attention and I was just wondering what the problem was.

I felt he was trying to tell me to move forward that he couldn’t see me properly not knowing that he was desperately trying to tell me to adjust my dress that the linen inside the dress was up and he wanted me to pull it down because it was a white dress and all he could see in his camera was my inner wear and I made it worse by moving forward. He said I moved directly to the light which made the reflection from the light more glaring on me …….{Laughing hard}

Omo! !t wasn’t funny I had to find a way to end what I was singing because it destabilized me. Even the people I was singing to {switches to vernacular} **** come dey whisper dey talk to themselves**** So I advised myself and ran off the stage …. {Laughing}

Praiseworld – Hahahah!!Oh my goodness!! I can just imagine your embarrassment. Funny though. {Laughing} Would love to know the artistes you have shared the stage with? And what you love to feature alongside with?{international and Nigerian}
ONOS – Shared the stage with Micah Stampley, Phil Driscoll ,Chevelle Franklin, Jessica Reedy and so on. I would love to feature with the likes of MaryMary, Le’andrea Johnson, Tamela Mann, Tasha Cobb, In the Nigeria front I’ve featured quite a number of artists already though on my tracks. I would probably say Cohbams.

Praiseworld – Oh wow! I’m just imagining you and Tamela Mann.. That would be a performance to watch. I love to ask some of my guest this question. How do you handle fame and your fans?
ONOS-I am a naturally level headed person {switches to vernacular} **** Yes I dey blow my trumpet**** LOL** I try each day to keep my prayer life up and running so that I don’t loose my one on one with God because it is the Holy ghost in me that keeps me in check! And for my fans l try to relate with them to the best of my ability.

Praiseworld – You visited the USA last year, could you tell us about your ministration there? Do you plan on visiting again soon?
ONOS-I had a 3 day concert including other ministrations in different churches as well, specifically Winners Chapel etc. It was a beautiful experience and yes I plan on visiting again this year by God’s grace

nigeria-flag

Praiseworld – If you were given an option to convey a message to the President of Nigeria through music, what will the title and short lyrics be?
ONOS- Hummn! The title will be: “Do Something!”

I stand for change
I stand for a better Naija
Nigeria is our land
Her greatness is in our hands
Oya! Do something

Praiseworld – Awwh! Wow! Onos, please do something about this something Song please.. {Both Laughing}You know, I love the way you sometimes combine your music with your Delta dialect flavor.. Keep it up

ONOS PROJECT/AWARD…..

Praiseworld – As the newly appointed National Coordinator of Women of African Origin in Music Ministry {WAOMM} what is your primary role?
ONOS- Just like our theme in WAOMM states, we are a supportive system at which women of African Origin in Music Ministry can be supported, empowered and encouraged to fulfill their God given talents and gifts.

waomm

So my primary role as the National Co-ordinator in Nigeria is to ensure by the special grace of God that WAOMM can lend a voice to as many individuals or corporate body that need a shoulder to lean on as they actualize their God given potentials.

Praiseworld – Great! Recently you were nominated by City People Entertainment AWARDS under the category of Gospel Artiste of the Year! How do you feel about that?
ONOS – It is a good feeling. I was also nominated last year as well for this same award it just shows that people out there really appreciate your work and what you are doing.

ONOS & FAMILY……

Onos and family

Onos and family

Praiseworld – If you were to choose one over another, what would it be? Family over ministry or ministry over family? If they equally weigh the same to you, please explain…
ONOS – Definitely family over ministry. I really don’t think you can have a ministry without your family because life is not fun when you don’t have people to share them with.

Mummy Onos and baby Anina

Mummy Onos and baby Anina

Praiseworld – Given that you just welcomed the birth of your baby, what’s your perspective on the saying- “Train a child in the way he should go and when he grows, he will not depart from it?”
ONOS- Hmmmmmm! Is it not too early for me to talk on that subject? …. Lol* because my daughter is just 7 months … Just kidding though. For me, it’s really about teaching the child those values early so that it is formed in her at a very tender age because those where some of the things that helped me when I was much younger and I believe I should do likewise to my children.

For example at night, when I want to put my daughter to sleep even when she doesn’t feel like sleeping I take her to the room, dim the lights and after a while she falls asleep dimming the light for me is just to let her know that- yeah it is night time and it is time to sleep. So right now she understands the routine. It takes teaching!

Kunmi Ariyo - Husband/manager to Onos, father to Anina

Kunmi Ariyo – Husband/manager to Onos, father to Anina

Praiseworld – Aware that your husband, Mr. Kunmi is your manager; how do you separate work and family life especially now that you have a new addition?
ONOS-Before and when we got married my husband was fully in charge of managing me but now we restructured due to much commitments at the moment, so we are currently building a team that will handle the different aspect of the ONOS Brand .

Praiseworld – Hummn! Now I see; I see the connection–Onos married her Manager. {Laughing}
ONOS {laughs} there is really no hard and fast rule separating work and family. My principle is: “Take each day at it comes..”

WHEN WOMEN GIST…
PRISY-I’ve heard some women complain about ‘texture voice change’ after childbirth. Do you think your voice changed after childbirth?
ONOS- No, I do not think so.

PRISY-You have a stylish way of dressing; do you have a wardrobe manager? Or is it just sheer creativity and inspiration?
ONOS-I am very creative and always want to look a certain way for an event. However, I have two designers I’ve worked with over the years and I’m still working with, they pretty much handle my wardrobe. I use BYGE Collections and KIKI Kamanu.

Most of the pieces you see on my video or in a photo come from them.

PRISY- Nice..
DID YOU KNOW?
• Onos loves to Window Shop?
• Onos loves wearing Lip-gloss?
• Onos loves speaking Pidgin English? {vernacular} as witnessed above
• Onos loves Shoessssss?

PRISY-I bet you did not know {In Kirk Franklin’s voice} If you don’t know, now you know!!

The Epistle of Paul to Gen Z ministers

Published

The Epistle of Paul to Gen Z ministers written by Pastor Dele Osunmakinde

Dear Gen Z Timothy,

Grace & peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ

I write to you with d warmth and wisdom of one who has seen the past scrolls unroll into d tablets and screens of today. I’ve observed from afar, understanding as much as possible, the beats of your generation—Generation Z. Amid d whirl of hashtags and viral trends, I see a deep search for truth and authenticity that echoes the timeless human quest. This very search makes the Gospel ever more relevant, as it offers an anchor in d fluidity of modern life.

I would meticulously cite my sources, and in this spirit, I reference my previous correspondence with the first-century Timothy. You might find it heartening to know that, in a way, my epistles are still trending, continuing to guide and enlighten.

As I sit here in my minimalist space, surrounded by technology that connects us across d digital landscape, I am compelled to write to you, my spiritual son, as you navigate the complex and ever-evolving urban environment where you have been called to serve (2 Timothy 1:2).

Embrace Authentic Leadership

Timothy, you are a Gen Z pastor, a digital native fluent in the language of social media, memes, and viral content. Yet, in this sea of constant connectivity, it’s crucial to hold fast to d authentic, unfiltered message of the Gospel. I urge you to use your platform not just to engage with trends but to set them—be a trendsetter in truth, in love, and in faith (1 Timothy 4:12).

Guard The Message in a Trend-Driven World

In a culture where “stories” last for a moment and “tweets” may fly in the winds of controversy, preserve the timeless narrative of Christ. Teach with clarity &depth, avoiding ephemeral traps of clickbait theology. People are hungry for more than just content; they crave real connection—to God and each other (1 Timothy 6:20).

Develop a Diverse &Supportive Community

The church should set the tone in contextualizing d diversity of its urban context. Be bold as you confront countercultures by building alternatives. This will not always be comfortable—it requires constant dialogue and a commitment to understanding. But in this, we see d Kingdom prevailing (1 Timothy 5:1-2).

Confronting Challenges with Wisdom

You face challenges unique to your generation—drug, sex, and a profound quest for identity. Address these from the pulpit with sensitivity and wisdom. Equip your congregation with biblical insight to navigate these complexities, fostering resilience and hope (2 Timothy 1:7).

Mentorship & Discipleship

In your influence, remember d importance of mentorship. As I have endeavoured to guide you, seek to invest in others. Discipleship is not merely about imparting knowledge but about walking alongside others in their faith journey (2 Timothy 2:2).

Personal Holiness and Self-Care

Adopting d same pattern is tempting in a city that never sleeps. However, lead by example in self-care and Sabbath. Your spiritual vitality is essential, for “the labourer deserves his rest.” Nourish your own relationship with the Lord in prayer & meditation, away from d noise and haste (1 Timothy 4:16).

Endure & Persevere

You will encounter opposition, both from within and outside the church. Stay grounded in the Scripture and let your love for God and His people be the anchor that sustains you. Perseverance will be your testament (2 Timothy 3:12-14).

Lastly, Timothy, watch over the Life Church family with diligence. Please encourage them to engage with their local communities to be salt and light in the concrete jungles and digital forums. Let your teaching be full of grace, seasoned with the kind of humour that opens hearts, but let it always lead back to the profound truth of the Gospel (2 Timothy 4:5).

May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with your spirit (2 Timothy 4:22).

In Christ,

Paul

I, PD, who wrote this epistle, greet you in the Lord.

PRAYER Vs PVC: Which Does Nigeria Truly Need in 2023?

Published

on

The Convener of the June 12 fast, PROPHET ISAIAH WEALTH, in an interview session held on the 5th day of June 2022, during a live Sunday service, held at the Gospel Pillars International Church auditorium at Plot 11c, Kudirat Abiola Way, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State, answered some questions on the above subject.

Question: You said you saw Nigerians celebrating in 2023, how can we be sure about what you saw?

Prophet Isaiah Wealth: When a person speaks, it is important to check the pedigree of that person. Again and again, I have said things about Nations, Individuals, and Organizations, which you can find on YouTube, and they have all come to pass as I have said them. The credibility of a prophecy is based on the pedigree of the prophet. My prophecies are out there and everyone can research them and see them for themselves.

Question: Many people ask, “Why fast and pray for Nigeria? We should be talking about PVC, not fasting”, how do you respond Sir?

Prophet Isaiah Wealth: PVC is important because we need to vote but, we cannot deny the importance of fasting and prayer. The bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14,

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”.

I don’t know of other people but, we are called by the name of God; but the way to get God to respond is for us to humble ourselves and pray and seek His face, and then He said, He will heal our land. I only know one person that will heal our land, and I can only reach him through fasting and prayer.

Question: What do you say to a person who says we should not be gathering about prayer and argues that it is a futile effort?

Prophet Isaiah Wealth: I hear people talk about developed nations, that they are not fasting and praying, but that is not true. A lot of the developed nations that we see today such as Britain, the United States of America, etc., have gone through their fasting and prayer season, and they still do. If you research about the U.S, there are a lot of Prayer Movements, and you would see a whole stadium full of people praying. There are a lot of prayer houses and prayer goes on 24/7 in the U.S. There are also prayer groups that pray 24hours every day for the nation.

How did the United States get to where it is now? How did Britain and other developed nations get to where they are now? I did a little research about the importance of prayer and I want to share. In the history of America, on May 24th, 1774, Thomas Jefferson, who was the third president of the nation, drafted a resolution for a day of fasting. We see America developed now, we don’t know its foundation. Their foundation was fasting and prayer.

When raids from France and Spain increased, President Ben Franklin of the United States proposed a general fast which was approved by Pennsylvania’s President and Council, and was published in Pennsylvania’s gazette on 12th December 1747.

On April 15, 1775, just four days before the battle of Lexington, the Massachusetts Provincial Congress declared the 11th of May to be set as a Day of Public Humiliation and Fasting and Prayer to confess sins, to implore forgiveness for their transgression.

On May 15th, 1776, General George Washington ordered the continental congress, having ordered Friday the 17th instant, as a day of fasting, humiliation, and prayer.

During the threatening war with France, President John Adams, declared a day of fasting, on March 23rd, 1798, and also on March 6th, 1799.

On July 3rd, 1849, during the cholera epidemic, President Taylor proclaimed the first Friday in August to be observed throughout the United States as a day of fasting, humiliation, and prayer.

On December 14th, 1860, President Jamesissued a proclamation of the National Day of humiliation, fasting, and prayer.

On August 12th, 1861, after the Union lost the battle of Bull Run, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in September as a day of humiliation, prayer, and fasting for all the people of the Nation.

On March 30th, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln, proclaimed the National day of humiliation, fasting, and prayer, during World War II, these were his words “It behooves us to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins”.

In 1952, President Truman, made a National day of prayer, an annual observant stating, “In times of national crises, when we are striving to strengthen the foundation of peace, we stand in need of divine support”.

Then, when we talk about Britain, we remember the words of the Queen of England when she said “I fear the prayers of John Knox more than the army of Scotland”.

So, we see that all these nations depended on prayer, they are now grown up, and they have forsaken the ways of their fathers. With the way they are today, if America practiced “gay” or was prayerless in 1770, it would not be where it is today. If Britain was prayerless in 1780, it will not be where they are today.

We are now where they were and we want to copy where they are. When they were in the season that we currently are, they fasted and prayed until they came to where they are now. So, we must remember that America and Europe built on a strong foundation of prayer and fasting.

How about Israel, which is one of the most developed nations in the world today, we see from the scriptures in 2nd Chronicles 20:20, how they were faced with war and they fasted and prayed, and then the prophet prophesied. And, the prophet said to them that “The Lord said this battle is mine, go with praise and worship”. The Israelites went with praise and worship and won the battle because they fasted and they prayed.

This has been the foundation of every success in every major society in the world today.

Question: Some people say sir that we have been praying and there are many churches but, how come we still have problems?

Prophet Isaiah Wealth: Firstly, National Prayers require a level of authority. Secondly, when we pray, how do we pray? Scattered prayers produce no result. We need unified prayers under the hand of a prophet, backed with revelation. The essence of prayer is that we talk to God for God to talk back to us.

So, when we talked to God, what was his response? If we say we prayed, what instruction did we get from God? Every time these nations prayed to God on national issues, God gave them instructions, He gave them something to do.

So, when we are praying haphazardly and we are not getting the national connection, or getting a word from God by the mouth of a prophet, how do we know what to do to bring to pass the will of God?

Thus, we need a collaborated prayer system, where we all pray and believe in prophecy because prophecy is God speaking back to us. And, God is telling us what to do, and we act accordingly, and thus, the result comes.

Question: There has been so much talk about signing a heavenly petition to the court of heaven, what is the ‘court of heaven’?

Prophet Isaiah Wealth: We have courts. Every society today has a court system-a judicial system. Now, imagine heaven without a judicial system? Whatever we have on earth today, was copied from heaven. Heaven has a judicial system, it has courts, of different kinds. There are courts of kings where nations can appear and present their issues. I have talked about this in my book “COURTFARE”, you can get the book to know more about it. There are actually courts in heaven, I have been there and know how it operates. When you bring an issue before that court, the ruling from it can determine what will happen on earth.

We see an example of that with Abraham when he stood before the courts of God, and he spoke to God about the nation and he was able to negotiate with God, regarding the nation. So, there are courts and petitions that can be made to these courts but on a different level when you deal with it nationally, it has to be cooperation.

Question: Nigeria is on the verge of a transition yet again and there is so much expectation for positive change, do you think that 2023 will work for Nigeria for a change?

Prophet Isaiah Wealth: There are three ways to execute a national change:

Leadership Submission: When a leader of a nation submits the nation to a deity, we have seen in some societies how the leader makes sacrifices to a god and connected the nation to the god. If the leader of a nation submits the nation to God, then God can move in that nation to execute a change.

National Participation: When people come together because of their voice and number they can petition heaven and move heaven to bring a change on their behalf.

The Place of the Prophet: Also, there is the place of the Prophet that is why I say a nation without a prophet is in trouble. A prophet can use his honour with God just as we see with Moses. Moses was able to plead for Israel when he told the Lord not to destroy them and God changed His mind, the bible said: “God repented”. We also see the same with Abraham, Elijah, etc. I intend to use my connection with God in this regard, and so, based on that connection, I can assure you that there will be a change in this country.

If others join us, it will be better, that means out of three ways, we will be using two ways, I use my connection and then national participation, calling on the Lord. With 2/3, we should be able to get something down.

Question: The primary elections have been concluded, and now there is a call to fasting and prayer, don’t you think that even though the fasting and prayers is good, it is a little late?

Prophet Isaiah Wealth: The problem with our Christianity today, is that we don’t know God, we don’t know Him at all. Someone says we are fasting and praying after primaries, it’s late, how can God be late? When Lazarus died, Jesus was still sitting down, he didn’t say he was late because Lazarus was dead, rather He said “I am the Resurrection and the Life”. He came after Lazarus had died, was embalmed, buried, put in a tomb, and shut in, then he called Him out and loosed him and let him go.

So, God can never be late, the reason is, that He lives in eternity, and He can scroll forward and backward in time. He can make a way where there is no way, He has given us a date to fast, June 13th-19th 2022.

In communicating with God, especially on national issues which are very judicial in nature spiritually, you have to know the window of the application. You don’t just apply whenever you like. The window is open to us between the 13th of and 19th of June. So, do not just pray every day haphazardly, you need to know when the window is open, and that is why you need a prophet.

Question: What are your final words to Nigerians?

Prophet Isaiah Wealth: Prayer is important but fasting amplifies prayer. Fasting is called humiliation before God, it humbles you. David said, “I humble myself by fasting”. So, fasting is humiliation. It is always very important when you want a national transformation because the people must humble themselves. Remember the prophet Jonah was sent to Nineveh and when he told them that destruction was coming upon their nation, the bible said the king and all the people poured sand on their heads and rubbed ashes on their bodies and fasted, and God said He will not destroy the nation anymore. He changed His mind about the nation because they fasted. So, there is power in fasting. When we fast we are telling God how serious and how sorry we are. We are humbling ourselves and we are saying we believe that He is the only one that can change our lives and our nation.

In my last words, I think we should do the following:

Do not give up on the Nation.

Get your PVCs and go out there to vote. But, I also want to state that we should not trust in PVC, because it has failed us several times, and your vote may not be counted. So, when you vote, ensure your vote is counted, do what you have to do to ensure your vote is counted. But, most importantly, ensure there are prayers for the Nation, backing up your vote. Put your trust in God.

Finally, do not speak wrong words about the nation. Remember what the scriptures say “I will give you as you have said”. We must continue to bless our nation, and our leaders, and hope for the better.

Book Reading Hack, Praying Hack, Interview with Shimon Atunde

The Praiseworld Podcast

July 22nd, 2021 — “You can’t pray consistently if you only try to model its practice according to other people’s personalities or how you’ve seen it done publicly” ~ Dr Dharius Daniels

Start more books. Quit most of them. Read the great ones twice.” ~ James Clear

From book reading hacks to praying hacks and a lot more tips on how to be a better life, today’s show was quite inspiring, educational and at the same time fun.

We also played host to UK based Nigerian Christian artist Shimon Atunde, as he emphasized the need for gratitude to God (his new single Ese), while updating us on life as a PhD student/Music artist in the UK. (TOLA put him on the spot for some yoruba speaking, so yeah, we had quite some fun too)

How would you feel if your close friend didn’t invite you for his/her wedding, and then you see updates on social media? What is the reason for this? Questions upon questions, as Desewa ‘radio blogged’.

Host: TOLA Omoniyi, Mofe Ogunwale, Desewa Martins

Brandon Camphor And Oneway – Lift Every Voice (A-Cappella) | Black Music Month

Published

on

As the nation recognizes, Black Music Month, an annual celebration of Black Music and its creators, celebrated in June, there is one song that embodies the culture and heritage of African-American struggle and hope in America. That song, “Lift Every Voice and Sing, ” more commonly known as The Black National Anthem, is a mainstay during Black History Month and during rallies and protests calling for an end to racial injustice.

Brandon Camphor & OneWay (BC1Way), a dynamic young vocal quartet of four lead voices – Brandon Camphor, Julia McMillan, Angela Jones, and Fred Cleveland – are insuring with their new rendition that “Lift Every Voice and Sing” is on every playlist for Black Music Month as well.

The inspirational vocal group has released an a-cappella rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” that reintroduces the song to new generations.

Brandon Camphor, musical director and founder of BC1Way shares;

” Lift Every Voice and Sing has been covered by so many amazing voices and we thought it appropriate to share our version during Black Music Month.

Just as you can’t start a game without singing The Star-Spangled Banner, we cannot kick off Black Music Month without Lift Every Voice and Sing. It is the epitome of Black Music! “.

Lift Every Voice and Sing also known as The Black National Anthemwas originally a poem written in 1900 by educator and civil rights activist James Weldon Johnson. The poem became a song nearly five years later when John Rosamond Johnson (James’ brother) put the words to music.

In 1919, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) adopted and labeled the song as The Negro National Anthem.

Camphor for BC1Way also expresses;

“Lift Every Voice and Sing is more than a song sung at civil rights rallies and protests. This song also resonates with hope. It is a prayer of thanks to God for his faithfulness and our freedom.

We hope that our a-cappella rendition puts the focus completely on the lyrics, so newer generations and people who are not African-American can focus on the power of stanzas written over a century ago which still have meaning!”.

Rising names in inspirational music, BC1Way has celebrated four Top 30 Hits on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay Chart including “His Name,” “I Choose You,” “You Are God,” and their most recent single, “God Of Mercy.” They are putting the finishing touches on their sophomore album, Hope Is Alive, tentatively scheduled for a late summer release.

Listen to BC1Way’s rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” here! Join them as they commit to making “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the soundtrack to Black Music Month, Black History Month, and beyond! Please post and share!

I Hate Jesus: The Story of My Late Father

Published

on

A story by Tunmike Umarudeen of her late father and how the prayer of intercession saved his soul was an inspiring moment on The Praise O’Clock Show. Narrated by TOLA Omoniyi

By Tunmike Umarudeen — Today makes it 6 years since my dad died but every December comes with a rush of memories of his last moments on earth. Last weekend at a hangout, during a session on witnessing to Muslims, I told the people of how he was fond of saying “If you take my corpse to church when I die, I will wake up” and chuckled. He hated everything about being a Christian until he turned 43. Follow me as I share the whole story.

There was a government primary school behind the estate where we lived in a town in Akoko where I was born. My mum was a teacher there. Every Sunday evening, some of the teachers met together for a fellowship hosted by Scripture Union. For me who grew up as a Muslim girl, the rhythms of their songs, claps, together with the sounds of the tambourines made me excited about attending the meetings. One of the couples preached to my mum and she got saved. Married to a hardened Muslim like my father, she had to face persecution from him and his relatives, with many attempts to marry a second wife, but none was successful. I was 8 years when all these began.

Dad worked in another state and visited us periodically, so his absence allowed my mum to continue in her fellowship with the brethen, and soon, she joined a church. We were punished each time my dad found out from spies around that we followed her to church. But for over a year, during morning devotions, she made sure we point at my dad’s picture and pray for his salvation. “God hears the prayer of children quickly because of your innocence, point at this picture and pray for the salvation of your father” I remember her say.

The following year was when he had a stroke with total paralysis twice at the age of 43. On the bed where he laid, he heard the audible voice of God which said to him “Dear brother, stand up and open the door”. After two attempts, he walked towards the door and opened it. Like Paul of Tarsus, this encounter led him to confess Jesus as his Savior. He survived stroke for many years until 6 years ago when he had the third attack and died in a coma.

In my early twenties, I had to take it up myself to intercede for the salvation of my younger Sister like my mother led us to do for my dad. One day, she saw her name in the middle of my bible where I had written her salvation as part of my prayer points for the year. She confronted me and I said, “I’m praying for you. You need to stop being religious and have a personal relationship with Jesus”. I kept talking to her but prayed more. She got saved the next year.

I’ve shared these stories to remind you that you have a role to play in the salvation of your unsaved family members. God needs you to agree with Him over their lives as you live an exemplary life too. He doesn’t give up on anyone, why should you? Pray more than you talk to them. Let God do the convicting, you do the praying and keep talking to them too.

5 Scriptures To Help You Control Your Anger

Published

on

By Adesewa Martha Martins

It is a beautiful day. I just wanted to remind you that there is a possibility that you can be on your own, minding your business and drinking water, but the people of the world would just refuse to let the daughter and the son of Zion be great.

Those moments where someone steps on your toes, or how a stranger you meet at a shopping mall queue or a bank queue will be rude to you for no reason at all

Or is it how a friend or colleague offends you and instead of rendering an apology, they still try to make it look like it’s all your fault? And even though you want to call them up and change perspective for them or give them gbas gbos, you know deep down in your heart that you are a Child of the Highest God and we don’t do that in this corner.

You also recall moments where you have had a crazy day at work and you are just trying to get home In one piece, but then you find yourself in traffic and as if that’s not bad enough, one driver will selfishly decide to drive a certain way that could either ruin the car you have been managing till a better one comes or even cause an accident.

Before you know it, you that has been controlling yourself since has yelled out “oo fe Ku sha (You want to commit suicide)”  “abi werey ni eleyi ni? (Are you mentally retarded)” or “Where did you learn how to drive, Cow?!”

The truth is, people of God, there are a lot of temptations that we come across every day, on our way to work, at work, in the market, in the bank, in church, and even in our own homes.

A lot of times it just seems unavoidable, like you can’t determine or predict who is going to piss you off. Even though sometimes you need to address some of them when they happen, you don’t need to respond to every single one. That is why we must keep our tempers in check and have a reasonable amount of self-control.

Trust me it’s not an easy thing to do especially when the fault is not yours, but here are some scriptures to remind you why it is important for you not to react to every situation even though deep down in your heart you desperately want to

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

This means that you can walk away from the conversation without any altercation taking place.

James 1:19-20

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Again, don’t say a word; just walk away till you are calmer and ready to talk about it.

1 Corinthians 6:12

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.

You can only decide to slap that person oh, or say whatever it is that you have got in your mind to say, but is it gonna be beneficial at the end of the day? Before you react, think about that!

Philippians 4:13

This one is essential for those moments where you are like “Father Lord, I am trying my best, I am trying to walk away but these haters keep testing me”

Just remember what Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all this through him who gives me strength”. Hallelujah!

and lastly!

Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

So before you open your mouth waaaaaa and be talking anyhow, think about it, there is power in my tongue, this stuff I want to say, is it going to make this situation better or worse, is it going to give life or cause death?

I hope these Bible verses help. Remember God’s grace is sufficient for you. God bless you
