Memorable Moments from The Dedication of Benson Idahosa University’s New Legacy Campus

What a week it must have been for the Benson Idahosa University! Whew!

This time last week, the great BIU went from playing host to “Papa” Bishop David Oyedepo and Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome to dedicating the Legacy campus and opening the faculty of Engineering complex.

What a great week it truly must have been for the Benson Idahosa University which was founded by the late Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa of blessed memory in 1933.

Formerly named ‘Christian Faith University‘ and was later changed to the “Benson Idahosa University” in 1998 to honor the late Archbishop.

In 1978, The late Arch Bishop received a word from God about building a University. Of course, this had to be the craziest idea ever because at that time building schools were strictly pioneered by the Federal and State Governments in Nigeria.

But as one of Nigeria’s popular church chorus goes;                                                    ♫When Jesus says YES nobody can say?♫                                                                  You’ve got that right! No man, not even the Government has the audacity to say No!

And so as it is in His custom, God made it happen and in 1992, the university commenced its academic programs with two faculties – Basic Sciences and Management Sciences.

But of course, God wasn’t done yet, He needed to prove that this was His doing and so in 1999/2000,  BIU blossomed into three faculties – Faculty of Basic & Applied Sciences, Faculty of Social & Management Sciences and Faculty of Arts & Education.

In 2002, BIU received the required license to operate as a private university in Nigeria and the fourth faculty; the Faculty of Law was birthed. Somebody shout Hallelujah!!!

BIU then opened the Legacy Campus in 2015 with the commencement of Faculty of Engineering which is now fully complete, hence the celebration which took place this time last week on the 11th and 12th of March 2020.

This is nothing but the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes.

Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome having contributed one billion naira to this effect, arrived last week Wednesday, the 11th March to the Grand Opening of the Legacy Campus where he commissioned the Faculty of Engineering which was named after him.

Bishop David Oyedepo also arrived at the Legacy Campus the next day, Thursday 12th March to release the blessings of the father. Laurie Idahosa described that very moment as ‘Perfect!’

“Bishop David Oyedepo and his family visited us to pray for and anoint the gates of the Benson Idahosa Legacy Campus. In one word, it was PERFECT”.

What a way to have celebrated this milestone! What a way to have made the late Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa proud!

We look forward to witnessing many more major moves from the Benson Idahosa University and as Laurie put it;

“We will continue to proudly carry on the legacy of Archbishop Idahosa and MOST OF ALL, remain proud of our Christian heritage and the joy that we have to be called the SONS OF GOD.

AS WE SHARE OUR FAITH ON THIS LEGACY CAMPUS AND BEYOND, WE WILL ALL MAKE OUR HEAVENLY FATHER PROUD”.

A big congratulations to the Benson Idahosa University once again as well as to we the Alumnis of this great university. And Yes! I happen to be a proud Alumni of the great BIU!
