The visioneer, Funto Ibioye took out time to share details about the Becoming conference, announcing that it is going to be ‘Lit‘. She went on to indicate the topics that would be discussed. She mentioned the aspect of married women paying the bills in the home.

“Our panel session at this year’s Becoming Conference is absolutely going to be LIT!!!

The purpose of the the panel session is to talk about issues not often discussed in “Christian” gatherings that need to be discussed amongst Christians…

This year we would be discussing “The Woman Breadwinner” … Is it ever ok for the woman to be the breadwinner of the home at any point in time? is it ok for the woman to step in when the man cannot provide?

What happens if the woman is earning more than the man? Is it even biblical for the woman to use her funds for the home? Should the woman pay for things like rent/mortgage, school fees etc when the man is not able to?”

She also dived into the aspect of the single ladies, stating that the idea of ladies paying the bills while on a date will also be discussed.

“Let’s even leave the marriage/family scene, let’s talk about dating/courting… Is it ok for the lady to pay the bills when on a date? Should a lady ever give/loan a guy money while courting? how much is too much?”

Funto went on to involve the men, requesting that they share their thoughts on women been responsible for providing in the home.

“Guys, we’d also like to hear your views on this topic… How would you feel taking money from your woman whether you’re married or courting?

Do you think it’s ok for the woman to step in when you’re not able to? Would you outright ask your woman to do so when you can’t?”

The Becoming Conference will also feature a girl-talk panel discussion titled “The Woman Breadwinner

The panellists are young women who are all breaking barriers in their various fields.

  • Francesca Uriri is the founder of Leading Ladies Africa.
  • Nkem Onwudiwe is Founder of Her Network;
  • Laju Iren is the founder of Have You Eaten Foundation,
  • Mercy Akamo is the Convener, TEDx Gbagada. °

Funto concluded by sharing the inspiration behind the panel session, stating that she believes that while the session is ongoing every lady present would be able to pick one or two lessons from what is being discussed.

“The idea of the panel session is not to come to a unified conclusion, because we all are different and there’s no one size fits all to any situation even if we go through the same thing at the same time…

Our purpose is that while the conversation is going on, you’d be able to pick a thing or two that you can apply in your own situation.”

The lineup of panelists are young, vivacious women who are taking giant strides in their various fields and doing amazing things.

The piece I would be performing is going to be very different.
As I was writing,God was telling me specific things he wanted me to say to some people at the conference.

I was terribly surprised because this has never happened in this way before.
Yea God has spoken to me about how to write a poem and what to write about but giving me specific words to say about the Happenings in people’s life while writing a piece, that was strange.

Get ready guys!! God is going to be speaking a whole lot at this conference.”
