USA — Renowned former neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Ben Carson told radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday that the odds of him running for the presidency in 2016 are now “reasonably good.”

Carson noted that he’d make a final decision by May of 2015.

Hewitt had said to Carson, “I know you like debating, so the question arises: will we be seeing you on the presidential debate circuit next year that will begin, that the Republicans are organizing for those who want the nomination of the party.”

Carson answered,

“I think the chances are reasonably good of that happening. I’m waiting obviously for a few more months. I want to make sure that it’s clearly something my fellow Americans want me to do and I’m also waiting to see what the results are in November because if the people indicate that they truly do want a nation that is for, of and by the people, then I, and along with I hope many other people, be willing to give it everything we possibly have.”

Carson is on a promotional tour for his new book entitled “One Vote,” and believes he can energize voters because he’s already seeing plenty of enthusiasm from supporters while in “four or five states a week.”

“I’m telling people ‘I don’t want you to just be enthusiastic, I want you to talk to all the people in your sphere of influence,'” Carson said. “If you begin to multiply that, you begin to negate the effect of the mainstream media which tries to manipulate everyone.”

Benjamin Solomon Carson is an American author and retired neurosurgeon. He is credited with being the first surgeon to successfully separate conjoined twins joined at the head. In 2008 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush.
